Packing and unpacking has probably been the thing I hate the most (aside from actually being cramped in a pressurized cabin). Here are some things that we always take when we travel to ensure that we’re comfortable.
Luggage Scale: If you plan to hop from country to country in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, or pretty much anywhere using lesser known airlines, they will nickle and dime you for everything including the weight of your luggage. If you can attempt to take 2 carry-ons that are usually 7kg (15.4lbs), then you won’t have to check-in,pay the fees, and risk that they’ll lose your luggage.
Memory Foam Travel Pillow: This is a little pricey, but for those who travel often, you will NOT regret it! I believe this is an investment piece. Why? Aside from the memory foam, it has an extra layer on top that will help support your head when you start to drift off and your head falls. The extra layer will catch your head and let you sleep comfortably. I’ve had this for 3 years now and have never complained once.
Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones: I will never get on a plane without these. When I used to travel, I was never able to fall asleep. I tried everything: Zzzquil, alcohol, pillows everywhere…nothing worked. Then a friend who use to travel for work a lot suggested these to help him fall asleep fast. It actually works! You’ll notice a huge difference when you’re on a flight trying to sleep and the engine noise is blasting in your ear without you knowing it. Put these on and you’ll drown out the noise to help you sleep. They last a full international flight on 1 full charge and there are times where I forgot to recharge on my flight back and they still lasted the full international flight.
Tumi’s Just in Case Bag: You have your luggage packed to the brim, but you forgot what happens when you buy stuff when you travel. Uh-oh. This Tumi’s Just in Case Bag has been so useful to us. Usable for second luggage, fold-able, and extremely lightweight. No need to go buy a new suitcase in a foreign country only to find it breaks down just as the airlines throws your bag on the tarmac.
Camelbaks: We always take this traveling, because when you’re traveling, you don’t want to be carrying water bottles everywhere. Instead, take this CamelBak, store at least 2 liters (that’ll keep you hydrated for most of the day), keep your wallets and sensitive info in the same area as the water, and you’ll never have problems with pick pocketing or dehydration no matter what temperature. We took this to Uzbekistan in the summer and it really saved it especially when we went to places that water was difficult to find.
Winter Leggings: While this isn’t exactly a travel hack, for girls, this will change your life! Traveling to anywhere cold and still want to pack light? These leggings will keep you warm in any winter and won’t take up much space in your suitcase.
